Thanks for the good times everyone on that Trip. I Also bought a sled off of one of justin davies buddies. Been out a couple times. SOO fun! Haven't had a lot of time to go out on it though. The open was pretty fun. Other than our basement flooding in belmont 40 mins away from stratton. Came home from our coach Abe Tetter's parents house to our basement having a couple new water falls from the windows pouring into the basement at 11pm before the qualifiers. Had pumps and trenches taking the water from the rain and super warm weather and tons of snow melting down hill in our basement diverted away from the windows. AWESOME! P.s Abe BBQ's a mean salmon though. Right after the Comp on sat had to drive 7 hours north to canada with SPY's very own Peter Anderson for a world cup on sunday that the national team has to be at. The pipe was pretty good and finished 6th on sunday in the world cup. Next stop nationals in calgary! Lata B-Rad March 22nd Am team shred Eric Soucy recently did the SBC 24/36 photo contest with Ian Millar. here is a non contest pic from Ian's digi cam. Holly Hot Dawg in a Hallway! DAvid March 7th Ryan in mexico I just arrived here. every single one of boards got broked on the flight......f?72 alaska airlinds. im at pascuales right now its just like pourto or pipline kinda deal. some local guy is repairing my boards for cheap, so it sounds like a surf tommorow. we see how it goes, ryan December 8th December 2nd was a crazy day, Andrew Jackson and I met at 9:00am at the Callahan parking lot. Not much of a lot anymore as it is full of heavy machinery used for the construction of the Olympic Pavilion for 2010. Feeling confused as where to park we drove up the cat track a couple of KM's and just decided to park on the side of the cat track as there seemed to be no parking anywhere else. As we were getting ready we soon saw others do the same. We were supposed to meet two other shredders... We waited and waited…called and called, but in true Whistler spirit they showed up 1.5 hours late. Awesome. While on the way up, one of the sleds decides to not work so well so we are delayed another 45 mins. Back on track we found some pillow and cliff lines. We hit them a few times until Andrew took a knee to the eye. We took this as a sign and decided to try to actually reach the backcountry. Once we hit sled land the light had gone from bad to wirse, flat light is no good for snowboarding or taking photographs. The snow was very deep though, so we continued riding around for a few more hours looking for something, anything, to shoot. Anything that looked ‘sorta’ ok had the landing chewed apart by all the slednecks. With another snowmobile about to blow a belt, morale was low with the troops so we decided to make a quick exit before dusk set it. By the time we hit the parking lot Andrew's eye was beginning to show the tell tale signs of a ‘knee to face the shiner’…. I bet it looked awesome the next day! Alas, not all face shots and first descents in the backcountry…haha, until next time, enjoy the snow! Submitted by Photographer Geoff Andruik
I wish I was in Hawaii but thers no snow ther so I'd rather be here. (Team Manager Pete Andersen demanded web updates from his hammock in Hawaii, ed)
The snow is coming....I can smell it.... Oct 26th Snow is finally falling in the alpine in Whistler, Ripzone am rider Eric Soucy spent yesterday in the pouring rain/snow clearing out a better landing for the MackDawg gap. Stoking the stoke. Some still-vids are up on...Coleman's and Greener's pages. submitted by - ian Oct 15th Hello! It's been a while and I've been so far away from the snow. A month long surf trip in Mexico sounds like a dream and it really was. I think it was the best trip of my life I and I have pretty high standards. I left with my best friend Annie and we went straight to Sayulita where we met a lot of great friends. We surfed twice a day and live in little Palapas right on the beach right in front of the left and right break. It's dead season there so we were some of the rare tourists there, it was perfect. Then we met-up with Benji and his friend Luc and went down South to this Indian reserve to go surf La Ticla for 10 days. It was messy and big and then the Hurricane hit so we had to leave for a few days. It was pretty miserable but after I surf the biggest waves of my life and scared the crap out of myself. Annie and I then drove back up to Sayulita for a few more weeks and did lots of boat trips for the best surf ever. I just got back to Montreal a few days ago for family and to do a gymnastic camp with the National Team. I should be doing 1260's in no time. He he he ! Here are a few photos, my favorite one is me just a split second before eating it in the surf. Ya, you can blow it up and laugh at me all you want. submitted by - dom Whats up guys its not often that I type anything on the old computer here but just wanted to let you know what Ive been up to. After the june catologue shoot I hopped on a plane and travelled to the east coast for my brothers wedding. It was really great seeing my older brother Larry tie the knot he married this really cool girl named Maggie. It was also cool that she had the hottest brides maides ever. I was in the wedding and was wearing a tuxedo very rare for me considering the only suit I own is a wetsuit. Then june rolled around and I decided to hang out a bit in new jersey to visit my family and my niece and nephew (who are cute as can be). While there I ended up getting some really good surf at my parents house in Long Beach Island. Unfortunately the weather was so hot and humid that I had to retreat back home. When I got back to california I was greated by some great waves for three straight weeks. The pacific ocean served up overhead waves for me. When the waves finally died down I retreated for Mexico for some surfing and camping. While in mexico I found some fun uncrowded waves with just a few of my friends and some ladies. It was a good time filled with all you can eat lobster dinners. Then September rolled around and I jumped on a plane for the east coast again. The first day I showed up the waves were absolutely flat so I decided to go have a few cocktails with some friends in Atlatic City. WOW!!!! Im glad I did. I ended up at a bar called Maloneys uptown, there my friends ended up hanging with some ladies they knew, I on the other hand started hanging with some ladies I didnt know..but 20 minutes later I was in a bus with about 10 girls who were celibrating there bachlorette party. They made me dance with my shirt off in the bus in exchage for rides all night to all the clubs in AC. Well worth it!! The rest is classified. The next morning came before I had a chance to rest but thats ok cause the waves were head high. The waves have been good ever since then. I think there have been 2 or 3 hurricane swells while I have been here. One of them sent sick waves to Long Island New York during the Unsound Pro. The contest was unbelivable good waves good beer good times. I ended up making the quarterfinals an taking home some cash. But unfortunately got my wallet stollen while celibrating. Back to New Jersey for the next comp, meanwhile the waves are still firing. At this point I had about 20 dollars and no car. I have been getting lifts from different people to get around over here, let me say things have been pretty interesting. The next comp was the Brave New World Hurley Pro in manasquan NJ. The first day was pretty big surf. I made all my heats to advance to the second day. Day 2 had super fun head high waves and some super gusty winds. It was cool everything worked out for me as I started winning all my heats to advance to the finals. Day 3 morning of the finals and boy was I nervous. I surfed my final and it was close apparently the top three of us in the four man final were only a total of 1 point apart. When all was said and done I ended up in 2nd. Now Im just riding high cause the morning of the final I had 3 dollars to my name, but now I have $1303 dollars in the bank! I won an extra hundo for pulling an air. I have 3 or 4 more comps on the east coast b4 I go back west. I will let you know how it goes in a few weeks, whirled peas, submitted by -Sammy Zuegner Geoff Brown New Zealish interview Brad Martin 1260 US oPEn Sept 23rd So I just got back from the trade show in San Diego, it was sweet, saw all the new video premiers, well kinda saw all of them had a few drinks in between. Parties right left and center! Here are a couple shots from the nights. The girls ready to go to the Transworld awards, me and Elana, trying to get the shot! and the Thirty-Two van trying to fit in the underground!! submitted by -mer Brad Martin recently made the age old snowboarder-coming-of-age trek across our great country to re-locate himself from Ontario to Whistler. His trip took 46 hour’s, here is his condensed version: After a 46 hour drive I’m in Whistler! So I leave my house at 7am, about ten minutes later, Traffic! It was a great start. I got to Andrew Skelhorns house in Barrie around 9am and we play some tetras in the back of my truck to try and fit everything we have. The only thing that didn’t fit was Skelhorns scorpion. We leave Skelhorns house around 10, drive for a bunch of time. Our first goal is to get to Sault Ste. Marie which was about an 8 hour drive. After that we drove about 7 more hours to Thunderbay, Here’s the sunset as we get into Thunderbay, Where we were thinking about staying at my buddy Spencer’s house for a few hours of sleep Skelhorn decided he’ll go to sleep now and then I could, when I’m ready start driving again while he sleeps. (I have been driving since I left my house, but that was my choice…) Spencer feeds me some fantastic grub with milk which is what I needed. Thanks Spencer. I start the drive while Skelhorn sleeps. Couple hours later, Skelhorn takes over while I try to get some sleep. I start driving in the morning sometime, I looked in the mirror to see the sunrise. I took this through the mirror. Once we got out of Ontario The drive was not so fun Anymore because its very flat and straight That’s it! The next Exciting thing would be on our way out of Calgary to see SNOW! As we drive to Banff we find SNOW on the ground which was pretty rad to see on sept. 15th. The drive through BC was really rad but it was dark so we didn’t get to see much. So 46hours later, Many stops at McDonalds, $600’s in gas, Case of Redbull (thanks Kenny), 4300km’s later I’m in Whistler! Also Because we had a place all set up and the dude rented it, Mer and her Family are letting me stay at there place. Thanks Nicoll Family. Great Family. submitted by - Brad Aug 30th Hey Guys, Here's a copy of the photo we got in the Toronto Star from the kick off party for Wakestock '06, they had a street downtown Toronto shut down for this event, there was a mini-ramp for us, stunt bikers, motocross riders, loud tunes blaring and plenty of hot bud light girls cruising around. All in all it was a good event, we ended up skating the ramp from about 4pm till 11pm so it kicked ass! Talk to ya soon!! submitted by - Joe hi all, how's it going? i'm doing great. down in NZ again for the month and loving it. got here like a week ago and moved into our sick houses. we got 3 houses for the team and they're all bangers. thanks to my amazing rock paper scissor skills i scored the master bedroom at our house, which sports a pretty sick view of the lake and the mtns and a nice little onsuite bathroom with hot tub! we've obviously been mostly riding but we've had a few down days being filled with mini golf and touristing around queenstown. unfortunately it was pouring rain so we couldn't do much outside (ie the downhill luge cart deals that we rode last year). so we're looking for a really cloudy day with no rain. aside from riding at snowpark we hit up cardrona for a day to check it out, and rolled over to treble cone today to ride some pow. cardrona is pretty mellow and had shit snow but the park is pretty fun, but not quite as good as snowpark's. treble was super fun. we kinda got sucker holed by the weather today. was supposed to be shit all weekend but we woke to bluebird skies and a foot of fresh at TC. so we rallied over there and enjoyed a few really good runs with the famous TC view before the weather moved back in and started dumping again. it was the worst whiteout i've seen in a long time, add to that that i was freeriding on an unknown mtn and it made for some good times lapping the hill. after finding my way back to the lodge, i was thinking the day was over... until we had to make the drive back down. treble cone i think has the sketchiest road i've ever seen to get to a hill. lots of switchbacks, no guard rails, super steep road, a really steep hillside and dumping snow or pouring rain down lower. you're more or less ready to jump at the door of the car at anytime should something go wrong. i've seen de-activated logging roads which are mellower. so the day was awesome. there's a lot of friends in town from all over so i'm getting excited for my birthday party next weekend. it's gonna be fun. the girls have volunteered their house for it and everyone is stoked on coming out. wish you guys could make it. i'm off to bed in hopes of the weather clearing for tomorrow. later submitted by justin Hi guys, Well most of the summer has come and gone very quickly once again and action packed. Tried to spend lots of my time on the lakes with friends and some time back home in Montreal for my brothers wedding. Had surgery on my arm and then coached MGT camps on Whistler glacier. Had a few memorable parties like our pirate one that was better then most Halloweens. The pictures are pretty funny. Just came back from the best camping trip I've ever done I think. We rented double sea-kayaks and launched them just South of Squamish and crossed the "channel area" and one hour later we had our private Island. We cooked-up some diner and had some drinks by the fire watching the shooting stars and listening to the Killer Whales "Orcas" tap their tales on the water calling each other for feeding all night. Ya!!! It was crazy. Leaving tomorrow for New Zealand. It took me so long to pack trying to figure out what you need to go back snowboarding in -15 degree Celsius. Can't wait. See you down under. |
