Describe how you first got interested in snowboarding: My friend introduced me in junior high. He was the best skateboarder in town. He's in jail now.
What keeps you snowboarding today? It's an addiction. If you have big plans for school, a career with financial success and want to meet some deadlines..... don't start snowboarding because it will take over your entire life. In a good way.
What do you get up to when you aren't snowboarding? I just finished University.... that took some time. Travelling, surfing, hanging out on the island. I also like cooking. And tennis.
Describe the perfect day:
Winter: It snows 30cms over night, it's -15 degrees, and everyone went to Blackcomb so there's only 4 of us on Whistler. And it's sunny. Andruik is taking photos, Dre brought an 8-pack like usual, and somebody built a bunch of big jumps and never hit them.
Summer: I'm in Mexico (rode down on my motorbike). La Punta in Escondido is breaking big rights and nobody will go in the water because they're scared of some crazy new fish called salmon. There's babes all over the beach with cold cervesas and my money is unlimited because my mom is paying for everything.
Have you had any injuries or situations that have made you re-think your lifestyle? Yes, but there's risks in all aspects of life. You can't stop doing what you love because it's dangerous. You just have to know your limits and use good judgement. Good decisions come from experience, which comes from poor decisions.
Contests and freeriding....describe likes and dislikes of both: I use to do a lot of contests and now I do mainly free riding. Contests are fun, except when the conditions are lousy and you're forced to do things you're not comfortable with. I've never been a competitive person and I've really found my element through freeriding. Snowboarding is an expression and freeriding gives you the opportunity to explore yourself and your surrounding through creativity.
What keeps you snowboarding today? I wouldn't be complete without it. I don't play hockey, so I have nothing else to do in the winter. I want to progress my snowboarding to the best of my ability. I know I'm not there yet.
Where do you want to be in 10 years? Healthy, happy, in love. I don't need much in life, just to live as much as possible. Global warming is going to
ruin our opportunities in the future, so it's up to us to cherish what we have now and do everything we can to make the world a better place.
